BAKING CUT OUT COOKIES

Ok, Santa is going to be the first cookie on the pan this year. Every year I say I am not going to make these cut outs and every year I do. Bill loves them and thinks he is still a child.
Ok, trees are going into the oven. Now, normally, I would just put sugar sprinkles on the cookies before they go into the oven. Oh noooooo, Bill wants icing on them. I told him ok, but he is coming to put it on. I was talking to Heidi on Skype while making these. I had my laptop on the drainboard. She was sort of here.

They are all layed out on the table waiting for him to come and finish them. I ran out of room with cookies still to bake, so the rest of them got sprinkles. I really like them better that way.
I think of my sister when I make these, she and I both liked them rolled thin and browned. I would have taken some to her if she was still alive. It is my Mom's recipe. It makes tons of cookies. There are five cups of flour in it. When the kids were all home, I made it three times a season by the time Christmas arrived.

Ok, here he is, Bill is busy with the icing and then he will sprinkle the colored sugar over them.He is very patient. He takes half of what I bake home with him, then usually comes and eats ours too. George never eats any of them.
All finished and ready to layer with wax paper in the tupperware. We had Christmas today for Bill. Ham dinner and all the sides and pumpkin pie. He is working on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Doubles both days. Lots of people go to the movies on these days. Merry Christmas Bill and everyone else too.

Well I am going to correct this story just a little...

Bill IS still a kid and so am I!!! Bill is very silly cause they are supposed to be with sugar sprinkles. We never had icing on them when I was home. Guess that is because Bill did not come in the kitchen and help then...lol!

Remember Christmas morning, we HAD to eat a piece of toast with tea before we could dig into the cookies. Humm.....with mothers not around you can switch that around and have the cookies first. :)

I know you broke a few so that you had to eat them too. See I am telling on you...lol!

Love and hugs ~

Nancy, I'm making cut cookies today too. I love them but I do get kind of tired cutting them out. Bill looks like a good helper. I do like you, sprinkle some with sugar, frost some and then I also hold back about a dozen. On Christmas Eve we have a small buffet and the cookies are dessert. I set out frosting and sprinkles...everyone decorates their own cookies..it fun to see what they create....well back to the kitchen...hugs, Linda

p.s. I like the suggestions about preserving my recipe ...I never even thought of doing that...Heidi suggestion framing the recipe....that would be neat. L.

Look at you!! You have the Christmas spirit here! I never do cut out cookies anymore, I'm just too darn lazy. Sunday we had our turkey dinner since Christmas we're too full from our traditional breakfast brunch Larry makes. He cooks a yummy omelette! It gives me a day off but I'll blog about it later probably! Merry Christmas!

Hi Nancy, Your cookies look yummy and loved the picture of Bill decorating. I am making jam tarts tomorrow at my DGD request, wonder how many I shall eat before they get to her on Christmas Day.
Have fun Nancy you deserve it.

What a lovely thing to do and to chat with your friend on Skype at the same time. Skype is pretty cool, but right now I only have one person to talk to and not so frequently.
